Today I want to take you to the house where Astrid Lindgren was born and lived as a child and teenager and spent her holidays when she was older: Näs close to Vimmerby. I knew that I wanted to go there, but my husband wasn't actually to keen about it. However, as it was close to holiday home we decided to just take a quick trip there and then to swim in the lake afterwards. Well, yet again our quick trip turned into several hours as we had such a good time!
Heute möchte ich euch zeigen wo Astrid Lindgren geboren wurde und als Kind und Jugendliche gelebt hat sowie später viele ihrer Ferien verbracht hat: Näs bei Vimmerby. Ich wollte dem Hof auf jedem Fall einen Besuch abstatten. Mein Mann wollte zuerst nicht, aber da es nicht weit von unserem Ferienhaus war, haben wir beschlossen kurz hinzufahren und danach noch zum Baden zu gehen. Aus kurz wurden dann wieder einige Stunden da wir so viel Spaß hatten.
Right after entering the area of the old farm, you get to a nice new museum about AL's life. I thought we would only be able to have a very short look at it, but luckily our son fell asleep in the stroller and our daughter was very interested and looked in detail at the whole exhibition. It's really well made. You get to know about her childhood, her time in Stockholm, the many prizes that she got, about her books etc.
Gleich wenn man das Gelände der alten Farm betritt, kommt man erstmal zu einem schönen Museum über ALs Leben. Ich hatte iegneltihc gedacht, dass wir bestimmt nur kurz reinschauen können, aber glücklicherweise ist unser Sohn im Buggy eingeschlafen und unsere Tochter war total interessiert und hat sich die ganze Ausstellung im Detail angeschaut. Sie ist auch wirklich gut gemacht. Man erfährt viel über ihre Kindheit, aber auch über ihre Zeit in Stockholm, über die Preise die sie bekommen hat, natürlich über ihre Bücher usw.
Then right next to the museum are the different houses that AL and her family or their labourers lived in. Some of them are open (as part of the museum or with a little shop). In one of them we were even lucky enough to actually meet a relative of AL who spoke german. It was really interesting to hear him talk about AL and about their life at Näs. The red house where AL lived as a child can be visited, too. ItÄs in the inside still the same as when she was little. However, it can only be visited in a guided tour and we decided to not do so. We would have loved to see it, but with to children as little as ours we felt that not only wouldn't we be able to really enjoy it, but we would even spoil it for the other people on the tour...
Dann direkt neben dem Museum sind die verschiedenen Häuser in denen AL und ihrer Familie sowie ihre Knechte gelebt haben. Einige sind öffentlich zugänglich (als Teil des Museums oder mit einem kleinen Laden). In einem von ihnen hatten wir sogar das Glück auf einen Verwandten von AL zu treffen, der auch deutsch sprach und uns ein bißchen von AL und ihrem Leben auf Näs erzählt hat. In ALs Elternhaus, das immer noch so ausschaut wie in ihrer Kindheit, kann man auch allerdings nur mit Führung. Das haben wir dann nicht gemacht. Es wäre zwar sicher wahnsinnig interessant gewesen, aber mit unseren zwei Kleinen hätten nicht nur wir das nicht genießen können, sondern es auch noch für die anderen Leute sehr anstrengend gemacht...
Instead we spent a lot of time in the huge gardens and the wonderful natural playground. These Swedens really do an incredible job in making a garden nice and attractive for children without actually adding too much "entertainment". Those things that are "offered" are always things that make the kids develop their own games and explore!

Stattdessen haben wir ganz viel Zeit in den Gärten und auf dem wunderbaren natürlichen Spielplatz verbracht. Die Schweden machen wirklich ganz tolle Gärten, die für Kinder attraktiv sind ohne dass es zig Spielgeräte gibt. Viel mehr werden sie stets zu eigenem Spiel und entdecken angeregt!
